Six Word Saturday

My kids get up too early.

It does not matter what time they go to bed,
they never sleep past 6am or so on the weekend.
Yet, they sleep in later, typically, during the week.

I can't sleep in to save my life.

Even if I could, I probably wouldn't since
I wake up around 5:30am all week and
my body clock just wakes me up.

Eyes wide open staring at the ceiling.
Thoughts of the day before, the day ahead,
racing through my mind.

But the point is, it would be nice to have some
quiet alone time in the morning
to do my thing, to get rallied up
for what lies ahead.

Nope, doesn't work that way in this house.

It is on like Donkey Kong
from the moment
their eyes open.

It is 8am and we have already been
 up for almost two hours.
Laundry started.
Showers taken.
Dish washer going.
Floor slept.
Crock pot dinner started.
Breakfast (Egg & Cheese Muffin sandwiches) made.
And eaten.
Cartoons loudly playing in the background.

I'm pooped already yet we probably have
another 12-13 hours to go.

Hopefully at some point, Kaylyn and I
can sneek a nap while the
boys do something out of the house.

Do you have any tricks to get your
kids to sleep in on the weekends?

Do tell.

Six Word Saturday

I haven't done one of these in a while.

I haven't blogged yet again in a while.

Ho hum.

Shopping. Is not for the weak.

There is it.

I H.A.T.E. shopping.  Any shopping really if I am going to be brutally honest.

The only thing that gets me to the grocery store is the need for nourishment.  Sometimes it's fun because it is a bit of a break (being that I can go it alone with no kids hanging off me). Sometimes it is fun when I have lots of coupons and I know I am going to save a boatload of money (kinda a competition from week to week).  But normally shopping, don't like it so much.

I especially don't like clothes shopping.  I can't even tell you the last time I went to the mall.  If I have to go into a store other than a grocery store, I get what I intended to and get out!  No window shopping, no strolling, no browsing.  I know not normal, right?  Sorry.  I never said I was normal.

But I have to go shopping today.  If not for me at least for the littles.  They are in need of some new socks, underwear and Hayden has grown quite a bit so his pants are starting to look like he is waiting for a flood. It is probably time.

So wish me luck please.

What "normal" task do you find frustratingly boring?

Remember when you were a kid and you used to hide in the clothing racks?
I still want to do that so I don't have to shop.
Can I please?

Six Word Saturday

Is it Saturday, feels like it should already be
Monday since we have been off for a few days
due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Speaking of that....

Carved that turkey like a boss!

That is my 6 words for today.

I am still carving!  No waste of a good bird in our house.

Do you use your turkey for left overs other than
sandwiches layered with stuffing and cranberry?

(That's how my husband makes them.
I just like the bread, turkey and mayonnaise and I'm good.)

I made Turkey Chili yesterday.

I am making Turkey Enchiladas today.

And then probably a Turkey Casserole of some sort tomorrow.

Here is a link to a post I wrote a couple years ago
that has a few more ideas and the links to the recipes.

For those of you in the US that celebrate Thanksgiving
I hope you had a blessed holiday with your family.

Although we had a couple empty chairs this year,
we still remembered those we love and lost.
We had a wonderful day filled with
lots of family, food and laughter.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

Six Word Saturday

Phew. Is it that time already?

Time flies when you're having fun.

You know what I'm talking about.

Yup, the lazy days of summer

are now merely just a dream.

Heck, they were always a dream to me.

It seems like summer was more busy then the school year
and we really didn't do a whole lot.

Funny how that works.

Did you have a nice summer?

Kids back in school now?

Six Word Saturday

Six Word Saturday.  Oh how I have missed you and the routine of getting up Saturday mornings to write a blog post or two while everyone is still fast asleep.  Ahh bliss.

However that is not the case at the moment, I am stealing a few minutes while the husband took the two littles to the park while I finished up birthday party preparations...and here I sit instead, writing a blog post.  I got this.

Two back to back birthday celebrations.

One this afternoon, one tomorrow afternoon.

Thank GOD for the glorious weather!

Hayden turned 6 this past Tuesday.

Kyleigh turned 21 this past Wednesday.

So celebrate good times, come on!

Party over here, party over there.

I'm going to be one tired mom.

Such is life.

Wish me luck.

Hope you all have a FABULOUS day!

Anything fun planned for you/your family?

Six Word Saturday

Man, it feels like it has been ages since I did a 6WS post.

I guess it really has been...so here goes it.

Tis the season.  Farmers Market Time!

I love this time of the season.

When the local farmers markets open.

If you can't grow your own fruits and veggies
nor join a local CSA, then this is the next best thing.

Take a weekly trip to your local farmers market to stock up on fresh,
locally grown fruits and veggies.  Not only healthier for your coming
straight from the grower but also helps  support your local farmers,
maybe your neighbor, your best friends cousins neighbor,
who knows but it is someone local not a thousand miles away.

Some would argue and say it is more expensive but it really isn't.
I actually have found in many cases it is actually cheaper
because no longer are you paying for transport, overhead, etc.
Within the market, just like the stores, it can be different prices,
so make sure to compare the prices and the
quality of the product just like you normally would.

We love going to these regularly and especially
so on nice warm days like it will be today.
We will saunter around, people watch, listen to some music,
maybe get some carmel corn, the kids faces
painted and of course leave with an armful of produce.

Sounds like a pretty good Saturday to me.

What are you doing this weekend?

Six Word Saturday

Passing the bug around these parts!

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

One of us, if not two,

have been sick with something fierce

over these past two weeks. Fun!

I told my family I love'em.

But must we share everything together?

I will be glad when healthy again.

Blogging is on the back burner.

If you haven't noticed. Chirp.Chirp.

In honor of St Pattys Day,

Six Word Saturday

And It Ended With A Bang!

My week.

Was Ahhhmazing.

I started my new job.

In training mostly.

But doing well.

Learning the ropes.

Meeting new people.

Getting reacquainted with old friends that I
have worked with in the past.

And then Friday at lunch, I ran into
a dear friend that I lost contact with 4 1/2 years ago.

She was one of my best friends since high school.

Known her since I was 15.

Been through a lot together.

But 4 1/2 years or so ago, life changes got in the way and our
day to day contact, friendship subsided.

I have thought about her a lot the last couple years.

But not sure why did not reconnect with her.

Seasons of life is what I chalk it up to.

It is what it is though and for some reason
God put us there to run into
one another, I believe that.

I keep saying 2013 is the year of new beginnings
and I can't shake that maybe this is another one.

This old friendship is meant to be rekindled.

She has two more children now.

Her oldest daughter who I adore (d) is 10.
Her middle name was based on something I said to
my friend one time about having children.

"Having children is a leap of FAITH just like many things.
If you wait til the "perfect" time, then you might be waiting for awhile."

Her boys.  I met one of them yesterday.
He is just a couple months old.
ADORABLE.

And then they adopted a son a year ago at birth.
So they now have two boys under 1.

Wow. How life has changed.

She barely knows Hayden our 5 year old.
And didn't know about our almost 3 year old, Kaylyn.

Lots more catching up to do.

I can't wait.

I have missed her.

I hope that we can pick up where we left off.

Six Word Saturday

It all came down to this.

Just like that, up in flames.

I quit my job this past Monday in case you didn't know.

Read more about it here.

I really wanted to leave with my head high.

But when one has to beg for their final paycheck
because owner is having a power trip.

Humiliating is a good word that comes to mind.

I worked for this company for 17 years.

And was treated like day old trash when it came down to leaving.

I left on Thursday instead of February 8th.

I get some extra paid time off so that is positive.

But still 17 years of blood, sweat and tears and still *business is business*

No common human decency.

Came back from lunch on Thursday.  Locked out of everything.

I didn't make this decision to quit lightly.

But man, after Thursday wonder what took me so long.

I should have done it sooner.

I deserve more for my capabilites.

I deserve to be respected.

I deserve the same loyalty, that I showed for 17 years.

In the end, what goes around comes around I guess.

I don't mean to sound spiteful by any means
but it is hard not to under the circumstances.

Wow! What a week.

This is it though.

No more talking about my past with
regard to my former job after this post.

I had my pity party Thursday and Friday morning.

Onto greener pastures.

Yes, I have a new job.

Better pay.

Better benefits.

Better growth.

Onward and upward I go.

The possibilities are endless.

To a tea party, we go!

Miss K and I have been invited to our first Mother-Daughter Tea.

I am so excited, as is she.

She has been talking about it all week.

Several of her little friends will be there.

We will drink tea with our pinkies up.

And eat little sandwiches.

It will be fun.

5 days of work into 3.

Kinda glad the holidays are over.

Back to life, back to reality.

Kids back in school on Monday.

Get back into routine for them.

Working out like mad these days.

Did you see This Is Me?

Still sitting at 6 pounds lost.

I over did it on Thursday.

I paid for it in pain.

They say, no pain, no gain.

Off to another basketball tournament today.

Talk to you all later gator.

Six Word Saturday

If you have been reading my blog at least since last year at this time, you know I chose a word, along with several other bloggers, that we wanted to *live* for the following year.

To recap, my word last year was:  Gratitude.  I really tried to be grateful EVERY.SINGLE.DAY for all that me and my family had been blessed with and although there were still definite pity parties  (more so I think in the last couple months) overall I *think* I was *intentionally* more grateful than in years past.  I made it a daily priority to be grateful for whatever was thrown my way, good, bad or indifferent.

My 6 words for this Saturday are:

My word for year 2013: Accountable.

Definition of ACCOUNTABLE

1: subject to giving an account : answerable <held her accountable for the damage>
2: capable of being accounted for : explainable

Although much of this post may sound a bit selfish...
and maybe it is, first and foremost I need to be
Accountable to myself and for myself.

Accountable to take care of myself; mind, body & spirit.

Accountable for vocalizing my own needs.
Telling others when I need help rather than
enabling them and then resenting them later.

Accountable to tell others no when
I am feeling overwhelmed;
only I can do this.

Accountable for my own actions AND reactions
therefore putting me on a better path of a positive well being.

In a nutshell, Accountable for putting my own health
and well being above all else;
knowing with that I can be a better
Lord loving, wife, mother, friend, employee.

I feel that these last couple years I have put everything and everyone
before myself and I have lost my mojo.  I have run out of steam and it
clearly is apparent in my lackluster motivation of late.

Obviously, I will still be there for my children, take care of my children,
be there for my husband, take care of my home, work, etc...
but I am going to be much more intentional about taking time for ME,
taking care of ME.

And I have already taken the first step down my ACCOUNTABILITY path.

Operation Shed Some Pounds has begun.

I went and bought a new pair of running shoes this past week
and I am heading to sign up at the gym today.

I have never been as heavy as I am now.

My goal is to lose 75-100 lbs this year.

No gimmicks.

No weight loss pills, shakes, payed for eating plans.
Just a whole lot of hard work at the gym,
a sensible diet and everything in moderation.

I plan on posting weekly about my weight loss journey and hope that
you can join in helping to encourage me and motivate me.

I will post a before picture soon (when I muster up enough
nerve and then will post more as I progress).

I know I can do anything I put my mind to but encouragement always helps.

What is your word for 2013?

I am linking this post up with Cate's 6WS at Showmyface.com.

If you want you can join in too.

Christmas Tree. Decorating.Shopping. Ohh My!

Is what my day consists of.

Up at the crack of dawn.

To get the busy party started.

Throw in a bunch of cleaning.

A couple basketball games for Tyler.

I am exhausted thinking about it.

No rest for the weary, right?

Six Word Saturday

It's a sad day in Troutdale.

This past week our city and the surrounding City of Gresham
had been taken over by fear.

Fear of the unknown of what happened
to a beautiful 21 year old on her way to work Tuesday morning.

We were glued to the twice daily news conferences,
internet news sites, Facebook pages.

All wondering what happened to Whitney Heichel?

Now we know.

It is not the outcome that anyone wanted.

A beautiful, outgoing, compassionate shining star taken
from her family, her friends, her community senselessly.

She had so much of her life left to live.

Like her mother said in a recent news conference,
"She is not just a picture, she is a daughter, a sister, a wife."

Our community is mourning with you and for you Whitney.

Gone in body.
But will forever remain in spirit.

To her husband and her family:
May you find peace and love in the memories you cherish of Whitney.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,
love leaves a memory no one can steal."

Six Word Saturday

Life is but a fleeting moment.

Live life to the fullest TODAY because you are not promised a TOMORROW.
(I know a bit cliche.)

I attended a Celebration of Life yesterday of a dear friends wife.

Although, I didn't know her personally, I knew of her and I know her husband.

They come from good soil.

They are both giving souls.

Cancer got the best of her in the end but not her best years.

She is leaving a legacy that was clearly evident at her celebration of life.

What is the legacy you want to leave behind?

This is my 6WS.  I know a bit somber.  But sometimes I think we
all need to be reminded to

Six Word Saturday

Good morning!  Good afternoon!  Good evening!

Ni-hao (Hello).  Welcome to my blog.

Off To A Day At FishFest!

What is FishFest?

I thought you would never ask.

FishFest is one of Portland's largest
Christian concerts that happens once a year.

We have gone every year.

This is the second year that it is at Mt. Hood CC
which is within walking distance of our house.

Kutless will be there.

Jeremy Camp will be there.

Britt Nicole will be there.

Fireflight will be there.

(among many others)

I will be there with many friends of Christ, our savior.

I will also be working at the Compassion International booth for a few hours.

This is my first time working an event.  I am sooo excited!

I am excited to be part of Compassion and to share
with others all that they do for children in poverty.

Do you know about Compassion?  Check out their website for more details.

I will be sure to take lots of pictures and blog
about FishFest in the next couple days.

I am linking this up with Cate at Showmyface.com.

Six Word Saturday

When it rains, it sure pours!

Do you ever feel like that?  Probably a silly question, huh?

It has been a pretty rough and tumble week by all accounts.

And it even ended with a bang with my bank
debiting my car payment two times!

Ughh, so what did I get to do on my Friday afternoon but go to the
lovely bank to fill out a claim to get my money back.

Ohh and it could take several days of course.

They debit immediately but it takes weeks for credits.  Go figure.

I'm not irritated or anything.

Not at all.

Hopefully your week went better.

It is Saturday now and I am going to try and enjoy time with
my family putting the chaos of the week aside.

Going to Summerfest this morning and then maybe
to pick some berries this afternoon.

That sounds delightful.

And as I typed this, in an irritated mood,
I thought about how trivial this probably is....
in the realm of things.

If you didn't hear about the tragedy in Aurora CO at the
midnight showing of Batman, read here

Won't you pray for those that lost their lives,
those that were injured,
the families they left behind,
the Holmes family
and even the suspect, James Holmes.

I am linking this 6WS up with Cate over at Show My Face.
You can too.  Describe what is going on in your life in 6 words and link up.
It is, that simple.

Hope you all have a FANTABULOUS weekend!

Six Word Saturday

Good morning.  Maybe Good Afternoon or Evening by the time you read this?

I am linking up with the Fabulous, Sophisticated and utterly Ahhhmazing Cate over at Show My Face where we, you and me, can share what is going on in our lives in 6 words.  You can elaborate on your 6 words, you can show pictures, you decide.

Ready, set, GO....

Phase 1 of plan in motion

All the pieces have not come together totally yet so I am hoping I am not jinxing this piece of our plan by talking about it.  I know kinda funny that I would think that but sometimes I do.

Unless you have been reading my blog for a bit, you probably have no clue what I am talking about.  Here is a link to a recent post that kinda talks about a few things.  Still no clue, well then maybe you will have to read my blog more often to keep track.  Really, it's ok.  See all those buttons.  You can follow me on Google+, GFC, Pinterest.  I even have a Facebook page now (no icon for that yet).

Hope you have an AWESOME weekend.  Anything exciting planned?

Six Word Saturday

Today, ah glorious Saturday.  The day you sleep in, leisurely wake up when you feel rested, lay around, do a whole lot of nothing...Ha!  More like up at 6am, cleaning the kitchen, getting breakfast ready for two hungry kids already waken from their slumber.  Oh well, a mom can dream right?

Today I am linking up again with the wonderfully fabulous Cate over at Showmyface.com and sharing my Saturday in 6 words. You can too by describing what is going on in your life in 6 words and linking up.

Here are my 6 words:

To be honest, nothing going on!

For once, although I did do all of the above, for one Saturday, the first Saturday in a long time we don't have to race out to a basketball game, nor are we helping any one move today.  We really don't have anything pressing plans wise.

I am however going to get dressed here in a little bit and go have girls only coffee (hot chocolate for me, thanks) with a few of my besties.

And then later this afternoon I think we might take the kiddos to a kids music show that is at this new Eat, Art and Theater (E.A.T) venue not too far from our house.  I think they will like that...

But other than that....nothing *truly* planned.  Just some hang out time with the family.  Nice.  Peaceful. Quiet. (Ok maybe not quiet).

I have to run, little miss is done with breakfast and she is getting antsy in her high chair.

What does everyone else have on their agenda?

Hope you have a WONDERFUL Saturday and Sunday.  See you Monday!
